Horrific...This Hotel should not be offered as a nightly rental at the same time its used for long term living..

I brought my wife to Woodstock NY from New Jersey and this was the only hotel available in the area so I booked a room through Hotels.com for 1 night. As soon as my wife and I pulled into the parking lot it was readily apparent something was NOT right. I've never seen anything like it. They have a gazebo out front that was occupied by 5 men who were smoking marijuana. There was a man pause out in a doorway on the left side of the Hotel. You could see peoples worldly belongings in the windows sitting on the window sills of all the rooms on the second floor so it became immediately apparent that they were housing long term residents like a homeless shelter. My wife immediately stated that there is no way she is staying in these unsafe conditions. I concurred as a retired law enforcement officer it was very unsafe. I walked into the lobby and the lobby stunk of marijuana smell. There was a young man behind the counter in the lobby who looked like he was handling laundry service who looked up and asked me if I was checking in. I told him I was going to but that there was no way based on what was going on that I would be staying there. He said ok, give me your name and I'll note it on your account. I walked out and before I got into my car, my american express card got hit for the full cost of the stay. $438.00.. I've stayed in high end Hotels in NYC that didn't cost that much. I disputed the charges with Hotels.com and they said they have no dog in the fight. I had a no cancel reservation and I acknowledge that but I didn't just not show up and cancel. We arrived and conditions were so deplorable I couldn't stay. Unclean, Unsafe, and based on numerous other reviews, management is well aware of it. And they certainly were aware that they are using this location as a homeless or section 8 housing location. They did not keep up with there advertised responsibility for safe and clean location so I shouldn't have to keep up with my responsibility to No Cancellation Policy. I wouldn't have known how bad conditions were when I booked it. It wasn't until I arrived.

When we arrived, there was a large group of people smoking weed outside in the gazebo in front of the lobby. One of the people volunteered to take our bags to our room for us. This already gave us an unsettled feeling, and then were informed by the person working the front desk that person does not work at the hotel. After we received our key, we realized every outside door was propped open, despite the 27/7 secured door signs. There were also several other people milling around outside, so my husband asked the front desk what was going on at the hotel. It turns out that a good percentage of the hotel is filled with welfare recipients that live there, and that in the last 30 days of our stay there was a stabbing and shooting. As a sign of reassurance from the front desk we were told the police response time to the hotel is 4 minutes, and the police are there often. The police were even there that evening questioning people. While everyone needs assistance, I did not wish to spend the high cost to stay at this hotel to experience this, especially with my 1 year old baby. DO NOT STAY here! Go across the street to the Holiday Inn. It costs more, but they do not have the same issue.

Unreal is where I will start. Pulled up to see 6-10 people outside smoking in the gazebo right out in front of hotel. Turns out the hotel is also a homeless shelter and possibly a section 8 place. Walked in to see a huge fan blowing through this Moldy , pot smelling lobby. Receptionist was high as a kite n reeked of pot. Gave us our room and within 1 minute we asked for another. Having to walk past a crackhead sleeping at side door was another hit. Room was so so, much better on 2nd fl. Noise was a constant door slamming, kids running in hall n screaming. Signs read all doors locked n secured 24/7 was a joke. All doors left unlocked 24/7 was the truth. We had to leave car n take Uber to event we came up for n I prayed my car would still be there or thought I would find it up on blocks. I think that’s enough. I just wish I was told ahead of time that that is the scenario at this hotel. I would’ve definitely driven mire miles to go to a better one. P.S. funny when I saw some of the very nice cars these homeless people have. And where do they get all the money to buy cigarettes to smoke outside all day long.

I've always enjoyed the Comfort Inn Saugerties, have stayed here for years, but no longer. There are a number of families in this hotel occupying rooms long-term, and that changes everything. Trash everywhere. The gazebo is occupied all day and most of the night, a gathering spot for the adults and children living in the rooms. At night the boom box comes out, with revelers shouting profanities at each other. I have never seen anything like it at a hotel, and I've stayed in hundreds of hotels. Maybe it's a temporary condition

I stayed 2 nights. The hotel had very few guests when I stayed on a Sunday and Monday. There is an indoor pool if that is important to you. The location is immediately adjacent to the NYS Thruway, making it convenient for some people. My room was on the side that faced away from the thruway, and it was very quiet. If I wanted to list a negative thing I would report that the desk chair was worn out and the "pleather" was peeling. I didn't care.
